South Korean and Japanese naval forces will conduct a joint exercise on search and rescue missions in international waters near the East Sea.
The joint drill will begin on July sixth and end the next day.
The Defense Ministry said that the two-day exercise aims to boost cooperation between the two countries in searching and rescuing shipwrecked sailors.
The drill will also promote military exchanges between South Korea and Japan.
South Korea will dispatch two destroyers, including the 4,300-ton Wang Gun, one patrol plane and one antisubmarine helicopter for the drill.
From Japan's "Maritime Self Defense Force," two destroyers, one coastal minesweeper, and patrol jets and helicopters will take part in the exercise.
South Korean naval forces and equipment will leave the country on July second for Japan.
This is the sixth joint search and rescue drill between the two countries since 1999. |
