The U.S. military will deploy a dozen F-15E fighter jets to Gunsan Air Base in North Jeolla Province on August 20th.
The U.S. Seventh Air Force Command in Korea said F-15E Strike Eagles will be deployed from Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho and will be stationed in Gunsan, about 275 kilometers south of the capital.
U.S. Air Force Lieutenant General Jeffrey Remington, the commander of Seventh Air Force, said the Strike Eagles, along with their 400 support personnel, will be stationed at the South Korean base for five months to replace F-16 Fighting Falcons at Suwon Air Base.
The Fighting Falcons were dispatched in March to ease concerns caused by the withdrawal of a battalion of Apache attack helicopters.
The F-15Es, equipped with the latest avionics equipment, can carry out air-to-air and air-to-ground missions, day and night, in all weather. Notably, their Low Altitude Navigation and Targeting Infrared for Night or LANTIRN systems give the jets surgical strike capability at night.
